History of the Lake
The story of Lake of the Ozarks begins with one of the most ambitious engineering projects of its time. Construction of Bagnell Dam started on August 6, 1929, by the Union Electric Company of St. Louis—now known as Ameren. When completed in April 1931, the project—called the Great Osage River Project—created what was then considered the largest man-made lake in the world.
Long before the lake became the Midwest’s premier destination for boating, golf, shopping, and waterfront dining, the rolling Ozark hills were home to the Osage Nation, who first settled this region. Later, explorers Lewis and Clark documented the natural beauty of the Ozarks, helping introduce the area’s rugged landscape to a growing nation.
Through the Civil War era, westward expansion, and the arrival of the railroads, the region steadily developed—well before the Osage River was dammed and transformed into the iconic shoreline we know today. What began as a bold hydroelectric project evolved into one of the most vibrant waterfront communities in the country, blending history, innovation, and lifestyle into the Lake experience we’re proud to call home.

We interview 10 local Realtors before listing our condo for sale. Since the lake area real estate market is not typical of most markets in the country we wanted to make sure we listed with a Realtor who knew the lake "cold."
Since we were updating it prior to selling (we owned it for 20 years) we also wanted a Realtor who could tell us what things were cost effective to do and what things were now. As such, when Susan told us she routinely purchased properties to update and sell, we were impressed.
While most other Realtors simply looked at the previous year's comps and recommended a listing price that was similar, Susan looked at the tightness of the market and extremely limited inventory and recommended a much higher price based on what she believed the market could bear.
Our condo sold for cash in 12 days.
